Jon Hagar

Meet Jon Hagar, Principal and Partner at Forge Craft Architecture + Design. Drawing on a fine arts background and as Director of Affordable Housing for the firm, Jon infuses his design process with creative energy, expressing design intent with a thoughtful eye for detail. The combination of his unique design lens, and his passion for envisioning solutions that positively impact the daily lived experience, makes him an indispensable leader for Forge Craft’s affordable and supportive housing work. 

Prior to joining Forge Craft in 2014, Jon worked in New Orleans and St. Louis on a broad range of projects with a focus in affordable housing and prefab modular office work. Across project types throughout his career, Jon has worked to improve lives through the art and science of architecture and design. . Jon became a partner in the firm in 2020 and has continued to use his extensive experience in affordable and supportive housing to envision create solutions that enhance quality of life for all people.  

Jon currently serves as a board member and secretary for Community Powered Workshop and volunteers with Preservation Austin. Committed to making a positive impact in our community far beyond the firm’s architecture and design work, Jon volunteers with Preservation Austin and is also a member in a number of organizations that share his commitment to supportive housing, including of the Austin Housing Coalition, AIA Housing Advocacy Committee, East MLK Neighborhood Plan Contact team, and the facilities committee of Hillside Early Education Center. He earned his Master of Architecture from Tulane University and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan. 

In his free time, Jon enjoys drawing, painting and exploring nature. You’ll find him most weekends enjoying the outdoors with his family — hiking, biking and becoming more familiar with state parks.
