Jon Hagar

Meet Jon Hagar, Principal and Partner at Forge Craft Architecture + Design. Drawing on a fine arts background and as Director of Affordable Housing for the firm, Jon infuses his design process with creative energy, expressing design intent with a thoughtful eye for detail. The combination of his unique design lens, and his passion for envisioning solutions that positively impact the daily lived experience, makes him an indispensable leader for Forge Craft’s affordable and supportive housing work.

Before joining Forge Craft in 2014, Jon worked in New Orleans and St. Louis on a broad range of projects with a focus on affordable housing and prefab modular office work. Across project types throughout his career, Jon has worked to improve lives through the art and science of architecture and design. Jon became a partner in the firm in 2020 and has continued to use his extensive experience in affordable and supportive housing to envision and create solutions that enhance the quality of life for all people.

Committed to making a positive impact in our community far beyond the firm’s architecture and design work, Jon serves on the Executive Committee of the Austin Housing Coalition, as a member of the AIA Housing Advocacy Committee, and as a member of the City of Austin Technical Assistance Review Panel. He also volunteers with the Facilities Committee of Hillside Early Education Center and is a former Chair of the East MLK Combined Neighborhood Plan Contact Team. He earned his Master of Architecture from Tulane University and his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan.

In his free time, Jon enjoys drawing, painting, and exploring nature. You’ll find him most weekends enjoying the outdoors with his family — hiking, biking, and becoming more familiar with state parks.
