Rommel Sulit

Chief Operations Officer | Director of Modular Architecture

Meet Rommel Sulit, Founding Principal and Chief Operations Officer at Forge Craft Architecture + Design. With 25 years of experience, Rommel founded Forge Craft with Scott Grinder to improve lives through the art and science of architecture and design. Rommel developed his architectural philosophy working on projects that span demographics, geographies and types at the Office of Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) with Rem Koolhaas, Page Southerland Page, Rhode Partners and BOKA Powell.

Before Forge Craft, Rommel’s work in Europe and across the U.S. centered on ambitious, large scale urban developments. Rommel now oversees projects across Forge Craft’s six Architecture + Design Craft Studios including Commercial, Affordable Housing, Interior Architecture, Residential Use, Modular Architecture and Emergent Technologies.

Born in Manila, Philippines into a family that values academic and professional excellence, Rommel and his family emigrated to Chicago where he was educated in the parochial school system, eventually earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Chicago. Post-college, Rommel helped launch an alternative news and arts weekly called Newcity, and completed an impactful internship at the celebrated OMA in Rotterdam, Netherlands. After his internship, he moved to Austin where he earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.

During his early architectural career, he discovered an affinity for the performing arts and took a sabbatical to train at the School at Steppenwolf in Chicago, returning to Austin to build his architectural career in parallel with his acting career. He co-founded a non-profit theatre company called Street Corner Arts in 2010 and Forge Craft with Scott in 2014. Rommel continues to balance his architectural and artistic life with his partner Elizabeth and their dog Gussie.

In additional to his professional interests, Rommel serves on the Board of Directors for the Austin Creative Alliance, is a member of the ULI Austin chapter’s Creative Cultural Sector Committee and serves on the advisory board of ATX Theatre, which represents over 80 local theatre companies. When not busy with all the above, Rommel likes to cook and travel, and would love to sleep more but hasn’t quite figured that one out yet.
