Walmart wins second round of Coolest Offices with sleek industrial space

World’s largest retailer is also expanding its downtown tech office
 

It’s nothing like any Walmart Inc. store you’ve ever been to.

The Arkansas-based retailer opened its downtown Austin office in February as a place where its technology workers can apply things such as data science and machine learning to its globe-spanning operations. To attract those highly skilled tech professionals, the Walmart space is packed with amenities and cool design. It was crafted with a sleek, industrial style that channels the building’s roots — it is an old warehouse and at one point was the original location of the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater chain.

The Walmart Tech ATX office won round two of our Coolest Offices contest, which wrapped up Sunday. Jason Norris, director of engineering for Walmart Technology and the company’s top executive in Austin, said the open layout of the office was designed with collaboration and creativity in mind.
